Over the past months, I’ve started and kept as drafts several Linux-related posts. But frustration accumulated to the point when I just couldn’t take it anymore, so I ditched them all. I no longer care about sharing how to fix minor annoyances or make customizations, and I care even less about comparing distros or recommending specific apps. I cannot stand it anymore!

This is not an emotional decision, despite my exasperation. So I need to put together all the relevant arguments on why “Linux on the desktop”—which these days means “on the laptop”—is dead for me. People should be aware that, despite the appearances suggesting the contrary, the quality of Linux is no longer acceptable, and its regressions are worse than anything ever experienced under Windows. As someone who’s been using Windows since 1992-1993 and Linux since the winter of 1994-1995, I should know what I’m talking about. Oh, and I’ve used many other operating systems.

These are not some small and workable annoyances specific to a distro or to a desktop environment. It’s the Linux kernel itself that is out of control. And surely much more than that, but it’s the Linux kernel that’s unfixable.

The full story will take some time to write because it deserves a clear head and well‑stacked arguments. Patience is also required because I am so pissed off that I need lots of willpower to focus and get there. And I don’t do nootropics or illegal drugs.
