I’m so sick of this new hysteria! Our natural stupidity would probably kill us before AI does. But hey, we still have to tackle this sorcerer’s apprentice situation, eh?

I wanted to ignore this sudden collective panic attack, but I nonetheless wrote two notes on my experimental Bearblog-hosted Quick Luddite Notes:

Meanwhile, this thing snowballed into a huge bubble, and I’m still trying to ignore it. In addition to the more relevant links given in the aforementioned “quick notes,” here you have some more:

Mostly bullshit, if you ask me. I found a much more balanced view in an opinion article, though it was unfortunately written in Romanian: “AGI: ce-i sperie așa de tare pe miliardarii angajați în cursa atingerii inteligenței artificiale generale? Ce ar trebui să ne îngrijoreze pe noi, restul.” Translation of the title: “AGI: What scares the billionaires involved in the race to achieve artificial general intelligence so much? What should concern the rest of us?”

If I were you, and if I had a lot of time to spare, I’d rather watch Cory Doctorow in some pre-Jacob Coxon interviews:

So, did the world end while I was not watching?
